Trick or Treat

Tonight we got to go trick or treating. This was the third time the girls wore their costumes because we went to a local church's trunk or treat last night. It was cold and crowded so we did not stay long but Finn and Chloe still had fun. Tonight we met up with the girls' bestest little friends and went looking for a donation to my chocolate fund. Pickings were slim as most houses were dark and few people were home. We had fun and managed to get some good stuff, most importantly the girls had fun. Here are a few snapshots from tonight and a little video will be coming soon.

Three point stance

How do you kill time and burn off nervous energy before the big game? Get outside and go over fundamentals like the three point stance. I do not think the girls grasped the importance of form and technique.

Saturday in the Fall

Today we had what could only be a toddler's perfect day-- costumes, candy, and bounce houses all rolled into one morning. The weather was perfect and the kids well behaved. We added in a train ride and a slightly over priced pony ride. We headed home with cotton candy which we enjoyed in the backyard.

Both girls took turns portraying Dr. Killpatient as they applied ointment to each other. The ointment, which Finn said was like lotion, was the notebook paper. Then Dr. Killpatient met Mrs. Haversham at the cafe for a spot of bead tea. I love the imagination my girls' have.

Tuscaloosa Time

We spent a hurried but lovely day visiting Tuscaloosa this weekend. We managed in about 24 hours to see Jeremy's grandmother and aunt, my aunt, our friends and meet up with Grandmama and Grandaddy for a trip to Tannehill. We hit town Friday at lunchtime and ate at Steamers with Nanny and Aunt Mary. Then it was back to their house for new dolls and playtime with Lucy the dog. The new baby dolls are named Lucy and Lucy too if you are interested. They talk, wiggle and coo. Chloe is in love!





Saturday morning we were supposed to meet Brittany for breakfast but she didn't make it. After a home cooked Cracker Barrel meal we headed to Tannehill. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we had fun walking around. Well, Chloe enjoyed being carried around for most of the day.

Each girl was given a purse by Grandmama and Grandaddy filled it with a dollar. Finn used her dollar to buy a used Happy Meal toy and when Chloe saw it, she had to go spend her money too. Finn kept calling her change of 0.75 "her three monies". When Finley got her face painted, Jeremy tried to distract Chloe but she kept saying, "My face my face" so she got hers done as well. It was a long day but it was fun so we will definitely be doing it again (but we will avoid like the plague the pony ride area). Let's just say it is not a wise idea to walk by the pony rides with an overly tired and hungry three year old and say that they cannot ride.

How not to get good pumpkin patch pictures.....

We went to the pumpkin patch at a nearby church today all decked out for a cute picture taking session. Things did not go as planned. Apparently Chloe's shirt was bugging her, Finn was too busy naming the pumpkins, and the sun was oh so very bright. All of these factors mean the pictures will be less than enjoyable. Ye olde scallywags, you just shiver me timbers!

We have been having a rough go of things lately. I do not know if it is a lack of sleep issue for Finn but her behavior and attitudes are atrocious. She can be smiling and giggling one minute and the next she is throwing a tantrum on the floor. Or she just will start crying for no reason at all. The mood swings are making me crazy and my ability to deal with them without losing my cool is not easy. To be honest I have lost my cool more times than I care to admit. Knowing that my response to her behavior can either help or hinder, I am willing myself to change. I have really focused the past few days on trying to "fix" whatever could be the "cause" of her problem. She napped today, a good long nap, which she hasn't done in two weeks or longer. Another part of my solution has been to spend even more time in close contact with Finley and Chloe. More reading on the couch and playing with Little People instead of shooing them off to the playroom while I cook.

Early this morning I had a brilliant idea. Netflix was sending the classic Disney flick Peter Pan to our mailbox today so I told Finn we would have a special movie night tonight. As I brainstormed a bit, I decided to make a whole theme meal. We had tuna cakes for dinner, a treasure chest cake which the girls decorated with help, and pirate grog. All day I built this activity up and promised great things. We had fun with the cake and the girls liked the movie. Tuna cakes were not a big hit in the under 4 crowd but were pretty tasty to the grownups.

I know the treasure chest is a bit unsightly, but we had integrity issues similar to the gingerbread house that wasn't from Christmas 2006. Once I got it mostly put together and the chocolate frosting generously applied, I let the girls add gumdrop jewels and gold coins. Chloe thought sticking the treasure deep into the cake was a fantastic idea, so the repairs I had already made (read as piled on lots of extra frosting)came undone. At that point I had to give up my dream of a pretty cake and embrace the lopsided mound of cake and frosting goo for what it was--a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

We have finally started feeling fall weather for parts of the day and I am loving it so much. We get outside and plan to go visit the scarecrows a few more times before they are taken out of the nearby state park. We have Halloween costumes (but I won't be giving any clues on what the girls will be) and will buy a pumpkin soon. For more fall pictures visit Sarah and all the other FFF links.

What a Weekend!!!!

We headed out of town Thursday morning to take Grandaddy home, go to the Fiddler's Convention, do a little shopping and celebrate Chloe's birthday. We were busy from the time we pulled off exit 351 in Athens until we arrived back home. Chloe had a wonderfully small birthday and loved being the center of attention. That is when Finn wasn't screaming "I never get a birthday party" while flinging herself to the floor in true melodramatic fashion. So without further ado (because I know Ms. Polly is checking) here is our weekend in review.
