Goodbye 2009! Hello 2010!

Hutch is 1 Month Old!

At one month old, he is growing and changing ever so fast. He should be well over 9lbs now but we don't have an official weight. I am beginning to notice rolls on his thighs and it is so exciting. I love me some chubby baby thighs. He is still eating well and sleeping some. His favorite place to sleep is in my arms or on my chest. Really any human will suffice. We (read I because I am the only one here most of the time) have been having a hard time the last two weeks with getting him to nap in his bed during the day. I lay him down, he screams, I pick him up, he burps, he goes back to sleep, I lay him down, repeat repeat repeat. It's a vicious cycle and I think it is beginning to wear on Finn and Chloe's nerves. They are tired of hearing me say "just let me get him to sleep and I will..." because even if I do get him to sleep, I may not have time enough to do what they want before he is screaming again. We have had a few smiles but he is definitely taking after his sisters and not showing those off too frequently. Soon I hope. He has started clutching my shirt when I pick him up and tracking some with his eyes. The next month is going to bring lots more changes and I can't wait to see how much he has grown when we head back to the doctor February 1st.

Herding Cats Would Be Easier

So we all know I like difficult things. Ok not really but I love the idea of this tradition we started a few years ago. It's called the cousin couch shot. The more kids that get added the worse it becomes but some day these pictures will be laughed over and maybe shared at a reunion or two. Some factors that determine success, because we have had success, is time of day, amount of food consumed just prior to the shot, and quickness of the grown-ups whose job it is to toss kids on couch and get out of the way. Things did not go well at the most recent attempt: Marbut Family Christmas 2009. (ages of children involved range from 4 weeks to almost 10)

picture #1- not bad but not everyone is there and Finn and William have fingers in inappropriate places

I changed positions in the room and in my haste to snap quickly I did not realize I was getting great Allie shots and not great group shots, oh well.

My best picture since every kid's head is visible but now three of the kids have finger to nose connections ( I don't believe all three were actually digging, just looks that way)

Not all of the kids but William really digs this couch shot anyway

Rubbing a baby's head is supposed to bring good luck right?

Wynn was completely enamored with "baby" and kept finding him the whole night

These last two are just for Brittany who complained she has never made my blog!

Christmas Day

This will be a pic heavy post, way pic heavy. Then I will have one more Christmas related one and the big birthday post, and then I will be finishing off that darn photo challenge at simply snapped. Gosh I will be happy to be done with that terrible idea. Kudos to Erica for finishing up today. I plan to have everything posted by midnight tomorrow but Chloe is under the weather so I am running in circles trying to keep her away from Hutch.

On Christmas morning they hit the ground running at around 6 am. Or was it 6:30? I must have been tired because I don't remember exactly. What I do remember is how excited they were when they were coming out of their room. I hope they never ever lose the Christmas spirit or the wonder of the magic that surrounds the holidays.

silly hat obsession rears its ugly head

Hutch slept through the morning's festivities but when he did wake up he was overjoyed that Santa had remembered him too even though he forgot to mail his letter.

Christmas really wears a girl out

After lunch and lots of playing we headed over to the house of the Granddaddy who lives in Andalusia for another round of fun.

Christmas Eve

After the Santa cookie decorating, we got cleaned up and dressed up for church. We have a come and go communion service that we go to before we head to eat dinner at the gray house. This year we changed things up just a bit by allowing the girls to open some presents after dinner. They were really thankful we did.

gotta take the group shots (although we did not get one with the older family members that were present--ooops!)

is there anything cuter?

I don't think I want to see what is inside.....

Santa Cookies

This is the first of many Christmas posts so be forewarned. Not only will I kill you with cuteness I will slay you with my wit. I'm mostly kidding about that last part. I will try and be funny but you are all safe. No need to up the life insurance before you read any further.

Christmas Eve day was rainy and cold and we did not get out of our pj's until very late in the afternoon. If you have never had a pj day when you are not sick, you really should try it. They are fun. The girls were beside themselves all day because the impending visit from you know who. So after the rest time that wasn't restful at all, we decorated the all important Santa cookies.

the fun begins

want some cookie with those sprinkles?

Holiday Sweet Treats

So far this is what we (April and me) have managed to crank out for the enjoyment of our families.

Top of the plate dead center are Reese's Peanut Butter Temptations. Make them and thank me!

Traveling around clock wise we have the super yummy Ritz cracker with peanut butter covered in chocolate.

If you can't tell, we love to cover things in white chocolate and up next are Oreo truffles. Little bites of heaven in your mouth. Then comes the chocolate covered pretzels resting against the peanut butter balls.

Continuing around the plate we then have reindeer poop. The recipe was originally titled pigeon poop when I saw it the first time. This is a treat kids love, it's easy, and who doesn't like an excuse to make poop jokes? Well, if your 4, it's really funny to say you are eating poop.

In the center of the plate is my favorite, the red velvet cake ball. I got the idea from bakerella.com and really go there now. If you love red velvet cake like I do these are a must-make for you.

I still have a couple of things planned for tomorrow including the all important Santa cookies!!!! Merry Christmas Everyone!

For three weeks two days

we have been adjusting to the new normal. Life with 2 crazy, life with three chaos. I think it might be a bit worse since it is the holiday season and all but boy howdy. I have been really blessed with a great sleeper though. More than one night he has gone for a seven hour stretch without waking up. That will make you feel real real good.

So to catch you up.....

Last Tuesday, we had an appointment to get photos taken for the church directory at 6pm. We promised the girls we would go eat at Pizza Hut after we were done if they did good. The first picture he took was marginally decent and it was the best of what we got. The rest of the pictures were terrible and once we looked at them on screen, he offered to retake them. We couldn't do that because Hutch had had a diaper malfunction and was no longer wearing his coordinating with his sisters outfit. Instead, he was wearing a worn out sleeper that was a hand-me-down. (Don't mistake the previous sentence--I love hand-me-downs a lot, but it just clashed with our Sunday best). The photographer then said even he wouldn't buy any of the pictures and we left to get pizza. This was also the day of Hutch's very first tub bath!

On Wednesday, Jeremy and I headed to the doctor's office to see if Hutch was indeed growing. At three days old, he was down to 8lbs 2 oz so I was anxious to see where he stood. I felt a huge sense of relief when the scale read 8 lbs 13 oz. It probably would have been a few ounces higher had he not had another diaper malfunction right before they called our name. I had to move him up to size 1's because he kept peeing out the umbilical cord notch in the newborn size. The size 1's though, leave a gap around his adorable little chicken legs. So we just use more Shout and Oxyclean and hope for the best.

After we got home, I dressed the girls up and we headed to church for a little Christmas caroling. Aren't the outfits they are wearing just cute as can be? I am only mentioning it because these were what I picked out and bought for them to wear at the big Disney Christmas party we planned to attend. Yep, this last week was when we were supposed to be celebrating Christmas at the happiest place on Earth. Instead I was cradling a newborn bundle of sweetness. There's always next year Mickey.

The girls had a blast caroling and that is where they learned those new songs they were sharing in the videos. In fact they are still singing those carols daily. I'm not quite tired of them yet.

Then on Sunday, the girls along with the rest of the kids in church rang hand bells during the service. They are really neat bells as they are color-coded and all the child needs to do is recognize their color when the card is flipped up. Finn was quite serious about what she was doing and Chloe, well she was dancing and ringing her bell whenever she felt like it. It was hilarious. (The video quality is terrible as we were not close enough but you can see Finn pretty good and Chloe is the one holding orange bells).
